Upon asking THE WIFE her thoughts on a marriage proposal during a sporting event, her reaction was straight and to the point.

“Tacky,” she quickly said.

“But it depends on the couple, and maybe that sporting event has significant meaning to them, or perhaps it’s how they met,” she added.

Clearly, that knowledge was already in this noggin, and it wouldn’t be a good fit for the wife that hates sports.

That thought leads directly to the latest “Wife of the Week”, a woman who was sitting courtside with her boyfriend at a UCLA basketball game in late December.

UCLA posted its “Mistletoe Cam” on the screen above, urging couples that appear on it to kiss.  That’s when this poor soul was met with likely the most embarrassing moment of his life, proposing while on video and in front of the whole crowd.

As if it wasn’t enough for him to have to watch the struggling Bruins basketball team, he then would instead watch this woman stare at him blankly, and then storm off without giving him the “yes” that the sparse crowd was seeking.

Naturally, the awkward reaction leads to a number of people to assume that this whole event was a hoax, and a way for this couple to get attention and fame.

Then again, maybe it was for real, or perhaps it was a situation where this woman was sharing the opinion of THE WIFE.

Either way, this week’s winner – whoever she may be – is the latest “Wife of the Week”.

Anyone can make a decision, but few will take a year-plus long fall for one, such as what has happened to NBA star LeBron James.

While LeBron’s “Decision” continues to get met with jeers, a Cleveland fan’s recent anti-James decision is being greeted with a plethora of cheers.

It all started on Twitter (where else?), when Cleveland radio host Cherise Navidad was tweeting during the NBA Finals.  Navidad, like the rest of the city of Cleveland, was rooting hard for the Dallas Mavericks to win the title, and knock King James and the Miami Heat off their high horse.

On the night of the title-clinching Game 6, she sent the following message out on Twitter:

Dear Mavs: win tonight and we will name our lil’ boy Dirk. He’ll be here June 22nd. @cavsformavs #cavsformavs

At the time, it was clearly a message sent in a playful manner during a nerve-racking and competitive basketball game.  Days later, she finds herself in the news headlines, being the subject of a story by Nina Mandell of the New York Daily News.

But the best part of the entire story is this: Navidad is sticking to her Twitter promise, and will go through with naming her second-born child after Dirk Nowitzki.

We can only hope that either Mark Cuban or Dan Gilbert loves the gesture so much, that one chimes in and offers to pay for the kid’s college education, too.

Either way, kudos to Cherise Navidad, this week’s WIFE OF THE WEEK here at The Wife Hates Sports. Best wishes to her, her family and a happy and healthy baby Dirk.

Everyone calls her “Henneman”, but this week, TWHS is calling her our “Wife of the Week”.

She’s Colleen Henneman, one of many inebriated baseball fans to roam stadiums on Opening Day.  Only, this Chicago Cubs fan’s adventures got caught on camera – in what could easily be considered the funniest interview of a fan during the opening week of the baseball season.

Whether she is discussing hot guys “up for anything”, her means of getting tickets, or having to purchase HBO and birth control, Henneman is a total hoot – and quite possibly still hungover today.

Kudos to Justin Kaufmann of WBEZ for landing this gem of an interview, and once again, congratulations to Henneman, our “Wife of the Week”.

USA World Cup soccer hero Landon Donovan is in the news again, this time for a completely different reason than scoring goals.

Four years ago, Donovan married actress Bianca Kajlich, and last year, he and the beautiful co-star of Rules of Engagement separated, yet remained good friends.

A few days ago, Donovan officially filed for divorce.

This marks a future for Kajlich to be a former wife in sports – and to honor her four-year run – here is a brief synopsis of her career, followed by a few eye-popping images.

Best wishes to our “Wife of the Week”, Bianca Kajlich, and to soccer hero Landon Donovan, too.  May each find true happiness.

It’s 4^th and goal – 0:15 to go – your team is down six but piecing together a drive that is clearly one for the history books.  You have seen every second of this masterpiece of a sporting event, and the icing on the cake would be your team escaping with a hard fought “W”.

And that’s when it happens…

She walks in front of the TV right after the snap.

“She” being “the wife” – we’ll call her that.  That’s what the boys call her.  She may be your wife, maybe a girlfriend, heck, maybe even an acquaintence.  No matter what, she’s the wife – and more often than not, she hates sports.

As a result, you see nothing.  All you can see is a silhouette of estrogen – yet you have to gauge the crowd noise to try and figure out what happened that very second.

This is one of MANY examples that the men of the sports world encounter throughout their lives.

We give you “The Wife Hates Sports” – a sports site with a twist, and this is how we’ll build on it from here.

The site will touch on many different fronts, featuring regular sports posts, pieces on the entertainment industry (music, movies, television and more) plus touching upon the relationship side of sports – but don’t fret ladies – it won’t just be like the aforementioned example.  We’ll try and tie in those females that are sports fans, too.

It’s all still a work in progress – but we’ll do the best we can to have as much fun as we can, while hopefully entertaining our readers and bringing in as much audience participation as possible.

On top of the random sports stories that develop, we’ll also be introducing various features in the future, including (but not limited to) the following:

Wife Wire – Live chats during key sporting and entertainment events
